Nigeria’s Emergency Management
Agency (NEMA) say they have discovered thousands of Nigerians in new
Internally Displaced Camps in Adamawa State, in North East Nigeria.
“New camps have been identified in Bekaji area of Jimeta, Numan Shelleng, are being assessed. Relief
items have been deployed to areas identified,” stated the statement by
NEMA. “NEMA… doing everything to identify those IDPs, so that they too
could benefit from the relief items provided.”
In a recent statement NEMA confirmed 743, 062 people have been displaced by conflict and natural disasters across Nigeria.
But it seems that at least one of these IDP camps are fast becoming
new towns and putting a strain on local resources says NEMA who are now
attempting to move many of the displaced persons to established IDP
camps with “better facilities.”
According to witnesses on the
ground. Up to 3000 displaced citizens from Gwoza have found a new town
in Adamawa State called Daware in Fofure Local Government
Area, according to a village head in Gwoza, Alhaji Idrissa Lawan.
NEMA has announced they have “deployed more personnel, water tank and MICU Ambulance to improve the welfare and management of IDPs in camps within the state.”
